      Starts: 10:00 pm
      Ends: April 28, 2014 - 4:00 am
Description: Portland Police Active Shooter Drill: On Sunday, April 27th at 10 p.m. until Monday, April 28th at 4 a.m. (yes, that time is correct…this is gonna be a nightowl thing) the Portland Police Bureau and Portland Fire Bureau in coordination with TriMet will be conducting an active shooter drill. We are looking for up to 20 volunteers to serve as actors to create a sense of realism for the first responders participating in the exercise. As a volunteer, you will be assigned a specific role, and possibly given moulage (make up) to simulate injuries.

This is a great opportunity to experience firsthand the demands put upon law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel during a stressful incident, and better understand mass casualty triage, first responder safety and the risks taken to secure a scene and treat/extricate victims.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact John Porter at john.porter@chinookgroup.org or (303) 862-7993.
      Date: April 27-28, 2014
      Time: 10 p.m. – 4 a.m.
Additional Details: Will be provided upon registration.
Contact: John Porter at john.porter@chinookgroup.org or (303) 862-7993.

It will also cover how to do Map Your Neighborhood. It is suitable for NETs and for others who feel they have a good start on their own preparedness. • BEECN test
      Starts: 8:00 am
      Ends: May 17, 2014 - 12:00 pm
Description: Our next BEECN test is scheduled for Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. to noon (though we are likely to be finished by 11:00). I need a lot of volunteers…70, to be exact, and 13 of them need to be licensed amateur radio techs. We are testing every BEECN west of I-205 and east of the Willamette River (including North Portland).

If you need more information about the BEECNs, please visit: http://www.portlandoregon.gov/pbem/59630
There is also a video online about them at: http://www.portlandoregon.gov/pbem/article/442964

Please sign up! If you’ve never done a BEECN drill before, this is a great opportunity to get experience with the caches and our emergency radio network. BEECN exercises are short, pretty easy, and you will get all the training you require. You will also be paired up with at least one other person.

      To sign up:

a.) Please have a look at the BEECN roster at: http://www.portlandoregon.gov/pbem/article/487847. Pick which location you would like to volunteer at (orange shaded positions indicate amateur radio positions). Have two or three backup picks in case your first pick is taken by the time you reach me with your preferred position.

b.) Reply to this email and let me know your top two or three location picks. I will reply back to you with a confirmation.

c.) Over the next couple weeks, I will provide folks who sign up with detailed information about their station and responsibilities on the day of the exercise.
